What Is Internet Radio?

November 29, 2011 in Blog, Internet Radio by admin  |  No Comments

Internet radio is exactly that, you will transmit audio to millions using an internet connection instead of  the air signals like terrestrial Radio Stations.

How works?

Option A – You are the source

With this option you will provide the audio stream directly from your computer to your listeners. You will need software to make your computer an audio streaming server which allows your listener to connect to your computer so they can listen your streaming audio. Also you will need  Broadcasting software, by this I mean software which can play the music you want to stream to the world. Online you can find a few options for free. Read more

How Receive Calls To Your Internet Radio Station Via Skype

October 5, 2011 in Blog, ICEcast, Internet Radio, SHOUTcast by admin  |  No Comments

For a long time this has been the Holy Grail of Internet Radio Stations. How to receive live calls to my Internet Radio Station Via Skype with a single computer. The idea sounds very tempting but it is not as simple as it seems. I saw a video online where this guy teaches you how to do it with Winamp, Skype and Virtual Audio Cable but he forgot the most important thing, people want to stream the Skype conversation with a Winamp audio in the background.

He was able to stream the Skype audio but he did not add a background audio with winamp and there is where things get complicated. You will have to deal with your Windows Volume Mixer to control the volume of your Winamp vs Skype vs your voice and sound on your headphones. Another problem is you will hear yourself on your headphones with a very annoying delay. Read more

Normalize Your MP3 Files For Better Audio Quality Experience

September 22, 2011 in Blog, Internet Radio by admin  |  No Comments

After you finally create your online radio station and you start to stream your music or audio the work does not end there. Another part of the job is the quality of the audio, and I am not just talking about each MP3 file having to sound good. You want all of the files to be of the same quality and sound the same. Sometimes you will have some files with different volume levels and that is why you listen to one song now and it sounds fine but the next one is too loud or too low. This is a very annoying experience for your listeners, and could cost you the loss of listeners. Read more

How To Maximize Your AutoDJ’s space, Re-encoding your MP3 Files

August 28, 2011 in Blog, Internet Radio by admin  |  No Comments

The AutoDJ is a very nice tool to stream audio without having your computer on all the time. The way this work is, you will have access to a online web interface where you can create playlists to stream you audio files. The AutoDJ comes with many features but we will focus on how to maximize your AutoDJ space.

With the Autodj you will have to upload your files to a server where then you can create playlist with these files. The space varies depending on how much space did you bought with  streaming plan. Some people make a big mistake and waste their Autodj space when they upload their mp3 files with a higher bitrate than the bithrate they are streaming.

For example let say your AutoDJ space is 1GB and all your mp3 files are 4:00 minutes long:

  • 4:00/min at 128/kbps = 3.75 MB – This means you can upload 273 files to your 1GB space
  • 4:00/min at 96/kbps = 2.81 MB - This means you can upload 364 files to your 1GB space
  • 4:00/min at 64/kbps = 1.87 MB - This means you can upload 547 files to your 1GB space
  • 4:00 min 32/kbps = 0.93 MB - This means you can upload 1,101 files to your 1GB space Read more

How to create a pop-up player for shoutcast and icecast

July 27, 2011 in Blog, ICEcast, SHOUTcast by admin  |  No Comments

In this article I will show you how to create a Pop-up window for your Shoutcast or Icecast player.

But ¿What is a Pop-up Window?

A Pop-up window is a web browser window that is smaller than standard windows and without some of the standard features such as tool bars or status bars. The Pop-up window will pop out of the page automatically or manually. The best option is to set it manually, ¿why? Well most of the browsers today come with a Pop-up blocker enabled by default. A few years ago the Pop-up Windows were very popular but people abused them making the user experience a bad one when these annoying Pop-up windows started popping up all the time.

You  are probably asking, ¿Why do i need a Pop-up Player? The short answer is to give a better listening experience to your listener while they see all the pages on your website.

This is an example of how you can add a microphone to winamp and host your radio station online.

Winamp comes with the option for a microphone, however you will need to configure a few settings in your windows operating system to be able to do this.

The settings are simple but every sound card is different so you will see a few options you may not have on your computer. What we need to do is enable the Stereo Mix Option, Windows 7 stereo mix is very simple but in windows xp sometimes is a little tricky.

Pay attention to the concept of this configuration so you can apply these settings on your computer the best you can according to your computer devices and settings. Read more
